Impact on Personnel
Certificated Employee Reduction in Force (RIF) Information
The Los Angeles Unified School District faces a historic budget shortfall due to the State financial crisis. As a result, the District is forced to make potential dramatic reductions in the number of certificated and classified employees throughout our schools and offices in the District.
March 15, 2012 is the deadline to notice certificated employees. The State continues to delay important budget decisions, but the District must adequately notice employees to maintain flexibility in the face of so much uncertainty.
- 11,713 certificated positions/people will be noticed. This includes 2,206 administrators (we notice all administrators every year).
-
Once we adequately notice certificated employees, the work continues on restoring/rescinding these notices with the help of all of our bargaining partners.

Certificated employees include teachers, administrators and support services personnel (school psychologist, psychiatric social workers etc.) who are represented by AALA, UTLA or designated as district represented management.
Teachers, support staff and administrators are encouraged to view the resources and support provided by Human Resource on their web site, http://www.teachinla.com/assistance/. Our goal is to provide as much support as possible during this difficult period of time.
